Lubbock Community Supports RMHC of the Southwest

The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is a worldwide organization that helps families access medical care and supportive resources. With almost 700 programs in 62 countries and regions and more than 136,000 volunteers, this organization provides 1.4 million overnight stays per year for families with hospitalized children. These services have saved families who travel with their children to receive medical care more than $43 million in lodging and meal expenses. What a relief it must be for parents and loved ones to know they don’t have to worry about finding a place to stay or food to eat; they can just focus on being there for the children in their lives.

In Lubbock, we are fortunate to have the RMHC of the Southwest chapter, serving a 68-county area across southwestern Texas and southeastern New Mexico. Each year, the organization offers different ways for the community to get involved in their efforts, which extend beyond family support programs into grants and scholarships that support other charitable causes as well.

One fundraising effort that resonates particularly well with the Lubbock community is the Quarterback S.A.C.K. program. S.A.C.K. stands for “Support and Comfort Kids”, and for this initiative, the organization partners with Texas Tech University Athletics. Fans pledge a dollar amount to donate to RMHC of the Southwest for every sack the Texas Tech Red Raiders make during the football season. What a fun way to get the community involved in supporting a worthy cause!

We were proud to participate in the Quarterback S.A.C.K. pledge this year and run our own “Family & Football” campaign alongside it, where we sold merchandise and donated 100 percent of the proceeds to RMHC of the Southwest. We also reached out to our network to explain the value of the program and were thrilled to receive additional donations on behalf of our generous friends, like the InCore Group, who we use for our own employee insurance needs. It was so inspiring to see our community rally together around a shared value, and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with RMHC of the Southwest in the future!
